Foundations, Advanced, and Mastering CAMA. What these Asset Managment courses deliver, and how they inter-relate.

This blog is an overview of three online, self‑paced courses designed to build practical, standards‑aligned capability in asset management — from foundational awareness through to CAMA exam readiness. It explains what each course covers, who it's for, how they fit together, and the delivery and certification options available.

Why structure asset management learning into three courses?

Asset management spans strategy, processes, people and continual improvement. Rather than present everything at once, our pathway separates the basics, the full landscape, and formal exam preparation. This lets learners build confidence progressively and choose the level of certification or recognition they need.

Course 1: Setting Foundations in Asset Management — The Fundamentals

This course gives you a solid grounding in what asset management is and what it means to apply a management system to it. You will:

·        Understand the principles, value and benefits of asset management.

·        Gain a broad view of the scope of processes required to deliver an asset management system.

·        Learn the core content of ISO 55000, the international vocabulary and concepts of asset management.

Who it's for: early career professionals aiming to become a Certified Asset Management Associate, or senior stakeholders who need a quick, practical grasp of asset management without detailed technical depth.

Course 2: Advanced Asset Management

Advanced Asset Management builds on the Foundations course and expands your understanding across the whole asset management landscape. Completing this course will make you conversant with:

·        All 27 clauses of ISO 55001 (the asset management system standard).

·        The 40 subjects in the asset management landscape — from context and planning to operations, monitoring and improvement.

The course is structured in three modules:

1.       Module 1 — Standards and Context: Insight into the standards, organizational context, objective setting, decision making and the key artifacts required for asset management.

2.       Module 2 — Processes: A deeper look at the wide range of processes required to build and run an effective asset management system.

3.       Module 3 — People and Performance: Leadership, culture, competence, performance monitoring and continual improvement.

If you want a full picture of what an effective, value‑generating asset management system requires — without seeking formal, globally recognized certification — this is the course for you.

Course 3: Mastering Asset Management: CAMA Exam Ready

This prepares you to confidently sit the formal CAMA exam administered by the World Partners in Asset Management (WPiAM). It includes the content from the Foundations and Advanced courses, plus two additional modules focused on assessment success:

·         Preparation Module: Begin with the end in mind — understand what is required to become a Certified Asset Management Assessor (CAMA) and how to get there.

·         Practice Module: Undertake practice exams, identify areas for improvement, and repeat until confident to sit the formal exam.

Our CAMA Mastery Framework is tried and proven. As a registered training provider for WPiAM, the Asset Management College offers endorsed training and a strong track record of helping candidates succeed in the CAMA exam.

How the three courses integrate

The pathway is intentionally progressive:

·        Foundations introduces the concepts and vocabulary (ISO 55000).

·        Advanced dives into ISO 55001 clauses and the operational landscape.

·        CAMA Exam Ready brings exam strategy, practice and certification alignment to complete the journey.

If you've already completed the Foundations or Advanced courses and later decide to pursue CAMA certification, we will credit the cost of those courses against the CAMA course so you don't repeat material unnecessarily.

Who should take which course?

·         Foundations: Newcomers to asset management; busy senior staff who need a concise overview.

·         Advanced: Practitioners who need a comprehensive understanding of ISO 55001 and the wider asset management landscape.

·         CAMA Exam Ready: Candidates seeking formal recognition as a Certified Asset Management Assessor and those who want guided, practice‑based exam preparation.

Delivery options, facilitation and corporate training

All three courses are available online and self‑paced. In addition, we regularly deliver facilitated CAMA training online — check the college schedule for upcoming dates. Any course can be tailored for your organisation and delivered in person or virtually to suit team needs.

The Asset Management College is a registered training provider for the World Partners in Asset Management, and our training has received their endorsement.

Conclusion

Whether you're starting out, deepening your capability, or aiming for CAMA certification, this three‑course pathway is designed to deliver clear, standards‑aligned learning that builds real workplace capability. If you want to progress to CAMA after completing earlier courses, we'll recognise your prior learning and credit those costs toward the CAMA course.
